" Date of original publication is in question: 1952 comes from the Library of Congress cataloguing of the Simon & Schuster edition. The copyright given, however, is 1950, which may be the date that Seuss' original treatment. This book may or may not contain Seuss' words -- the jacket copy and title page both cagily proclaim 'based on the Academy Award-winning motion picture by Dr. Seuss'. No credit is given to screenplay writers Phil Eastman and Bill Scott, so the 1950 copyright may indeed indicate authorship of this text by Seuss. At least nothing is quite as straightforward as the credit that Seuss gets on the published score (also 1952) by Gail Kubik. Anyway, the book is enjoyable as a print memento of the ground-breaking UPA cartoon."--Dave
